7 Cool Valentines To Give Your Kids
By Sherrie Le Masurier
This Valentine’s Day give your kids something special. Following are some of mine and Crystal’s favourite ways to tell are kids we love them.
Send A Secret Valentine
Use a piece of white construction paper to send a secret valentine. Cut out a heart shape and then write a message with white crayon. Put the heart in an envelope along with a note explaining to your child that she needs to paint the valentine red for the words to appear. Go one step further and drop the secret valentine in the mail. What kid doesn’t love to receive mail?
Pour A Secret Love Potion
Surprise your kids with a special love potion. Add a little cranberry juice or red food colouring to their apple juice and drop in some special ice cubes made of the same liquid and a few cinnamon hearts. Drop a few cinnamon hearts into each section before you put the mixture into the freezer. Or, add a few of the cinnamon candies to a bowl of apple sauce.
Give A Krispie Kiss
Mix up a batch of Rice Krispie squares but instead of using a pan, mold the rice cereal mixture with the aid of a funnel coated with butter or margarine. Depending on the size of funnel used you should be able to make between six and twelve Rice Krispie kisses. To resemble a Hershey’s kiss, wrap in foil and insert a little note that sticks out a little from the top.
I Love You Coupons
Surprise your kids with heart shaped coupons tucked under their pillow or under their dinner plates. Ideas could include: an impromptu tickle fest, an extra storybook reading, a back rub, a cookie baking session, a movie and some cuddle time on the couch etc.
Valentines Day Spaghetti
Turn a simple meal of spaghetti into a love fest by shaping the noodles into a bit heart and filling the centre with tomato sauce.
Hugs & Kisses Hershey Style
Purchase a bag of Hershey hugs and a bag of Hershey kisses and go wild hiding them all over your house for your kids to find. Attach little note of love and affection or clues as to where they may find some more.
Valentine Countdown Banner
If you’re looking for a fun way to count down the seven days leading up to Valentine’s Day make a countdown banner using white cardboard and seven pieces of wrapped candy for each child. You could either cut out a big heart or cut out a long strip of cardboard and using a marker draw seven equal sections. If you go the heart route, randomly secure the candy by placing a section of rolled tape at the back of each piece. The banner strip should have one piece of candy for each section. Make the numbers 1 to 7 above or beside each piece of candy. Your kids can start enjoying their treats on February 8th and can indulge in one piece a day right up to Valentine’s Day.
