13 Creative Ways to Say, I Love You

By Sherrie Le Masurier

By Sherrie Le Masurier

Whether it’s Valentines Day or any other day of the year, the words ‘I Love You’ never go out of style.

Following is a list of creative ways to show your significant other how much he (or she) means to you.

  • Make a bunch of simple valentines out of red construction paper. Scent them with your favorite perfume, write fun little messages on each, and leave where your partner will discover them, one at a time.

  • Ask your mother-in-law for the recipe to his (or her) favorite childhood dessert then surprise your sweetie with it.

  • Plan a surprise get-together for your significant other and his (or her) friends and then make yourself scarce.

  • Raid your partner’s keepsake box and give him (or her) a trip down memory lane. Pull out all the Valentine cards and mementos you previously gave your sweetie and decorate the house.

  • Surprise your significant other with breakfast in bed.

  • Write love notes in soap or lipstick on all the mirrors in the house. To remove, wash off with crumpled newspaper and a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water. Better still use some of your kid’s washable markers which makes clean up a breeze.

For another fun twist on the same idea you could use some Rain-X Anti Fog (or a similar kind of product that keeps car windows from fogging up) and a cotton swab to write a message on your bathroom mirror. Your message will mysteriously appear the next time your sweetie takes a shower.

  • Frost some cookies with humorous messages ("For a good time call...") and slip them into your partner’s lunch.

  • Surprise him (or her) with a warm bath, candles and a glass of wine. (Don’t forget to warm the towels and the robe.)

  • Warm your sweetie’s car for a few minutes before he (or she) has to leave for work.

  • Buy some small glow in the dark stars and write a special message on the ceiling above your bed.

  • Attach a ‘Thinking of you” card to a long string and tie it to the bottom of your automatic garage door to greet your sweetie when he (or she) arrives home.

  • Enjoy a winter picnic indoors by moving your furniture and pulling out a blanket, prepared picnic basket, and a bottle of wine.

  • Welcome your partner home with a chalk message written on your front walkway.
